Connect ChatGPT Ads

After you connect, leads and sales from your ChatGPT ads show in Konektor. You see which ad brings each lead. When your team closes a sale, Konektor sends the result back to ChatGPT Ads. The ads then learn from real sales, not only from clicks.

Before you start

Make sure you have these three items:

Step 1: Create a data source and a Conversions API key

  1. Open Ads Manager.
  2. Go to Tools > Conversions.
  3. Click Create data source, then select Web.
  4. Copy the Pixel ID of that data source.
  5. Go to the Conversion keys section, then click Create new key.
  6. Copy the Conversions API key that appears.

The key shows only once

Ads Manager shows the key one time only. Keep the key in a safe place. Do not send the key in chat or email. If you lose the key, create a new one.

Step 2: Connect in Konektor

  1. Open Tracking Website.
  2. Click Add ad platform.
  3. Select the ChatGPT Ads card.
  4. At the Copy from Ads Manager step, read the instructions, then continue.
  5. At the Paste credentials step, paste your Pixel ID and Conversions API key.
  6. Click Test connection.
  7. Make sure this message shows: "Connected. The test event was received and is not counted in reports."
  8. At the Set up ad link step, copy the link template for Step 3.
  9. Save.

After you save, the key field shows "Saved ••••" and the last 4 characters. Konektor never shows the full key again.

If a failure message shows, copy the Pixel ID and key again from Ads Manager. See Common problems.

Install the pixel automatically

Turn on Install the ChatGPT Ads pixel automatically on the landing page so that Konektor installs the pixel on your site. Turn this option off only if your site already has its own ChatGPT Ads pixel.

Konektor needs an ad link that uses the template. Without the template, Konektor cannot tell which ad brought a lead.

  1. In Tracking Website, open the Ad link template section.
  2. Select the ChatGPT Ads tab, then click Copy.
  3. Replace your-landing-page.com with the address of your landing page.
  4. Paste the link as the destination URL of each ChatGPT Ads ad.

Link template:

https://your-landing-page.com/?utm_source=chatgpt-ads&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign={campaign_id}&campaign_id={campaign_id}&ad_group_id={ad_group_id}&ad_id={ad_id}

Do not change the parts in curly brackets. ChatGPT Ads replaces {campaign_id}, {ad_group_id}, and {ad_id} with the real values when the ad runs.

ChatGPT adds the click ID to the link automatically. You do not need to write it.

A link that already has a question mark

If your destination URL already has a ?, join the parameters with &. A URL can have only one ?.

Step 4: Choose the events to send

  1. Go to Conversions > Conversion Settings.
  2. Open the Mapping tab.
  3. Find the ChatGPT Ads column.
  4. For each lead status, select the event that Konektor sends.

Default mapping:

Lead statusEvent sentEvent type
NewLead createdStandard
Qualifiedqualified_leadCustom event
ProposalCheckout startedStandard
WonPurchaseStandard

Other statuses default to Not sent.

The "Optimizable" badge

The Optimizable badge shows on standard events. You can select only a standard event as the optimization goal of a campaign. A custom event still shows in reports, but it cannot be an optimization goal.

Konektor sends a custom event when you select Custom event and enter its name. Use lowercase letters, digits, underscores, or hyphens, with a maximum of 64 characters.

Strict mode and Send all

StrategyHow it works
Strict modeKonektor sends only conversions from ChatGPT Ads leads. Your ad data stays clean.
Send allKonektor sends all eligible conversions, including those that did not come from an ad click.

Start with Strict mode. Read Conversion Strategy for the full comparison.

Step 5: Create a conversion event in Ads Manager and add it to your campaign

  1. In Ads Manager, go to Tools > Conversions.
  2. Create a conversion event for the same event you chose in Step 4. Example: Purchase.
  3. Set the attribution window to 30 days.
  4. Open your campaign.
  5. Select that conversion event as the goal of the campaign.

Choose a standard event if you want to optimize the campaign for that event.

Check the result

WhereWhat you see
Conversions > Conversion Settings > Delivery log tabThe status of each event that Konektor sent.
The ChatGPT Ads row in Tracking WebsiteThe status Healthy, Waiting for events, or Problem.
Event Stream in Ads ManagerThe events that ChatGPT Ads received.
Ad Analytics > ChatGPT Ads tabLeads and results for each campaign.
Lead detailsThe ChatGPT Ads click badge on leads that came from an ad.

The status Waiting for events means the connection is correct, but no event has been sent yet. This status is normal right after you connect.

Use Send test on the ChatGPT Ads row to send a test event at any time. Test events do not enter reports.

Sites with a Content Security Policy

If your site uses a Content Security Policy (CSP), ask your developer to allow the addresses below. Without them, the browser blocks the ChatGPT Ads pixel.
