Track Ads to a WhatsApp Group with Konektor.id

Konektor.id lets you track ads to a WhatsApp group: when a lead from an ad joins your group, your rule changes the lead status. The status change sends an event to your connected ad platform. It works on QR numbers with Group mode on, only for existing leads, and does not track invite link clicks.

From Rp199.000/month. 14-day trial.

What is the problem with tracking ads to a WhatsApp group?

Many businesses run ads to collect people in a WhatsApp group. Think of an online class, a buyer community, or a group for event attendees. The group lives inside WhatsApp, and your ad platform cannot see it.

A pixel or a website tag sees page visits only. A Click-to-WhatsApp ad does not even open a page. So a person who joins the group leaves no trace in the ad platform. Your team sees the member count grow, but it cannot tell which ad brought each person.

Two problems follow. Your ad reports miss the step that sits closest to the sale. And the ad platform learns from clicks only, not from the people who take action.

You should also know one limit from the start. Konektor.id does not track clicks on the group invite link. This feature reads something else: who has actually joined the group.

A made-up example

Take an online shop called Dapur Contoh. It runs a Click-to-WhatsApp ad for a cooking class. The names, the group, and the details below are made up.

A possible student named Sari taps the ad and writes a chat. Konektor.id creates a lead for Sari and keeps the ad click identifier. The team then sends an invite to the group "Kelas Masak Batch 12". Sari joins. The rule of Dapur Contoh changes the status of Sari to Qualified. Konektor.id sends an event to Meta, and Dapur Contoh can see which ad brought Sari.

How does Konektor.id track it?

The flow has six stages.

  1. An ad brings a person to WhatsApp. Konektor.id creates a lead and stores the ad click identifier. For a Click-to-WhatsApp ad, that is the ctwa_clid in the first message. For a landing page, it is fbclid, gclid, or ttclid, linked through the visitor code.
  2. Your team invites the lead to the group, for example by sending the invite link in the chat.
  3. Your QR number is a member of the group. When someone joins and Group mode is on, that number tells Konektor.id.
  4. Konektor.id matches the phone number of the member with a lead in your workspace. If several leads share one number, it uses only the newest one.
  5. Your rule with the condition Joins a WhatsApp group runs. Its action changes lead data, such as the status, a label, or a note. The lead records an activity named Masuk grup WhatsApp, with the group name and the rule name.
  6. If the action changes the status, Konektor.id sends the event for that status to your connected ad platforms.

One join runs the rule once. A duplicate notice for the same join does not repeat the action.

If the lead already has the status that your rule sets, nothing changes. For that reason no event goes out.

The click identifier does not come from the group. It sits on the lead from the first chat or the first landing page visit. The group only triggers the status change.

Which leads can the platform recognise?

An ad platform receives an event only when the lead carries data that it can match. Konektor.id uses Strict mode by default. Strict mode sends only leads that clearly came from an ad click. You can change the strategy in Conversion Settings.

A lead without an ad click still changes status. But its event to the ad platform can show the status Skipped in the Delivery log. That result is normal for an organic lead.

A note about the invite link: you can share it as usual. Konektor.id does not see clicks on it. Konektor.id acts only after the person has joined and the phone number matches a lead.

Keep the rule safe

Use Group name contains. For example, type "kelas masak" so that every batch is covered. Capital letters and double spaces make no difference.

Avoid the every-group choice if your number is in other groups. Groups that have nothing to do with your ads would count too, and they could change the wrong lead.

Add a Lead Status condition when you need it. With that condition, the rule runs only on leads in an early status, such as New or Responded.

Ad policy

Your ads still follow the Meta Advertising Standards. This feature does not change ad rules. Konektor.id only records people who have joined a group, and it does not promise ad results. The policy link is in the Sources section.

Which events does Konektor.id send to your ad platform?

EventWhen it is sent
QualifiedLead (Meta)When a group rule changes the status of a chat lead to Qualified. Meta receives this event once for each lead.
qualify_lead (Google Ads)When a group rule changes the lead status to Qualified, if the lead carries data that Google Ads can match.
Lead (TikTok)When a group rule changes the lead status to Qualified, if the lead carries a TikTok click identifier.
Purchase (Meta, TikTok) and purchase (Google Ads)When a group rule changes the lead status to Purchase. Use this for a group that only paying members can enter.
Events for other statusesWhen a group rule sets any other status. Conversion Settings decides the event for each status, and you can change it.

Click identifiers: ctwa_clid, fbclid, gclid, ttclid

What do you need?

  • A WhatsApp number that you connected with a QR scan and that is a member of your group.
  • Group mode switched on for that number. Only a workspace owner or admin can switch it on.
  • A lead that already exists with the same phone number, from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or from a landing page.
  • One active rule with the condition Joins a WhatsApp group and an action that changes the lead, for example Change Lead Status.
  • An ad platform connected in Website Tracking. For chat leads sent to Meta, also set up CTWA with the Set up CTWA button.
  • Room in your plan for numbers and rules. Your plan sets how many of each you can have.

What are the limits?

  • Konektor.id does not track clicks on a group invite link. It records only people who have already joined the group.
  • Only a contact that is already a lead changes. A person without a lead creates no new lead and sends no event.
  • The feature exists only on numbers connected with a QR scan. Official WhatsApp Business numbers and partner numbers have no Group mode.
  • Group mode is off by default. People who join before you switch it on, or while it is off, run no rule.
  • A person who leaves the group changes nothing. A rule runs only when someone joins.
  • A member who hides their phone number cannot be matched to a lead, so no rule runs for that member.
  • A group rule only changes lead details. It cannot send a message, and it cannot use conditions that read message text.
  • An event goes out only if the lead status really changes. Konektor.id sends each built-in event once for each lead.
  • The ad platform decides attribution and reporting. Konektor.id does not promise ad results.

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

Good fit for

  • Businesses that use a WhatsApp group before the sale, such as online classes, buyer communities, or event attendee groups.
  • Teams that already use a QR number and already record leads from ads.
  • Advertisers who want the ad platform to know which leads actively join the group.

Not a fit for

  • Businesses that want to count clicks on a group invite link.
  • Businesses that only use an official WhatsApp Business number or a partner number.
  • Businesses that want the group to create new leads from people who never chatted with the business.

How do you set it up?

  1. Open Numbers & CTWA

Open the Connection menu and choose Numbers & CTWA. Check that the QR number in your group shows the status Connected.

  2. Switch on Group mode

On the row of that number, switch on Group mode. It is off by default, and only people who join after you switch it on run a rule.

  3. Connect your ad platform

Open Website Tracking and connect Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok. For chat leads sent to Meta, click Set up CTWA on the same number.

  4. Create a Change Lead Status rule

Open Automation Rules and click Create rule. Fill in Rule Name, choose the Action Change Lead Status, then choose Set Lead Status Qualified.

  5. Add the Joins a WhatsApp group condition

Click Add condition and choose Joins a WhatsApp group. Choose Group name contains, type part of your group name, then click Save Rule.

  6. Test with one lead

Add the number of an existing lead to the group. Open that lead and read its activity. Then open Conversion Settings and the Delivery log tab.

Frequently asked questions

Can Konektor.id track clicks on a WhatsApp group invite link?

No. Konektor.id does not record clicks on the invite link. It records people who already joined the group, then matches their phone numbers to leads that exist.

Does a person who joins the group become a new lead?

No. A group rule changes only a contact that is already a lead. A number without a lead is skipped, and no new lead is created.

Is Group mode on by default?

No. Group mode is off by default on every number. You switch it on yourself on the Numbers & CTWA page, and only QR numbers have this switch.

Can a group rule send a welcome message to new members?

No. A group rule only changes lead details, such as status, label, owner, or note. It cannot send a WhatsApp message and it cannot call a web address.

Which event goes to Meta when someone joins the group?

It depends on the status that your rule sets. The status Qualified sends QualifiedLead to Meta for a chat lead. The status Purchase sends Purchase. Each built-in event goes out once for each lead.

What happens when a member leaves the group?

Nothing changes. Konektor.id does not change the lead status and does not send an event when someone leaves.

How do I know that the rule ran?

Open the lead that joined. Its activity shows Masuk grup WhatsApp with the group name and the rule name. Then open the Delivery log tab in Conversion Settings to see the events sent to your ad platform.

Is it safe to choose every group in a rule?

It works, but every group that the number is in counts, including groups that have nothing to do with your ads. It is safer to use Group name contains with part of your ad group name.
